Hexagram interpretation:
The "Fu" in "Zhong Fu" means sincerity. Therefore, Zhong Fu means sincerity and trustworthiness. The upper trigram (Xun) represents "wind"; the lower trigram (Dui) represents a marsh. When the wind blows across the surface of the marsh, the marsh water is moved and ripples. This is like a superior treating their subordinates with sincerity and earnestness, causing the subordinates to be moved, resonate, and obey. This is the meaning of Zhong Fu. On one hand, the trigram "Dui" represents joy; the trigram "Xun" represents obedience. This is the image of willingly and joyfully obeying without pretense, mutually responding to each other. This also fully expresses the meaning of Zhong Fu. Therefore, this hexagram is named "Zhong Fu Hexagram."

The ferry crossing is fraught with hidden danger: The boatman, Li Biao, behaves imperiously at the ferry crossing, leading Chen Guangrui to invite a fatal disaster. Eight months pregnant with a son: At that time, Chen Guangrui's wife was already seven or eight months pregnant. Heaven distinguishes between good and evil without error: Good and evil are clearly distinguished, and Heaven will not make a mistake. A bestowed return to life begins now: It is at this very moment that Heaven grants him the ability to return to life and be reborn.

Vernacular

Chen Guangrui was appointed as the prefect of Jiangzhou. On his way to take office, he encountered a boatman named Li Biao at a ferry crossing. Li Biao murdered Chen Guangrui and assumed his identity to take office. At that time, Chen Guangrui's wife was seven or eight months pregnant. After giving birth, fearing her son would be killed by Li Biao, she set her son adrift down the river. Later, he was found by monks from a temple and named Jiangliu (Xuanzang). Subsequently, Jiangliu (Xuanzang) went to the imperial court to appeal, and eventually Li Biao was brought to justice. Because Chen Guangrui had once released living creatures, the Dragon King transformed into a golden carp and, in gratitude for his kindness, preserved his body intact. After his wrongful death was avenged, he was able to return to life.

Fortune telling by lot

The main character of this lot is Tang Sanzang's father, Chen Guangrui, who was kind-hearted and often released captured animals, thus receiving this good karma. The villain Li Biao was eventually brought to justice, so good deeds and evil deeds ultimately receive their due. For business, it is advisable to rethink joint ventures. Clearly distinguish between good and evil when choosing friends, and you will find good fortune. For overall fortune, pray for divine protection; there is danger and difficulty. For legal matters, the case will be concluded by the end of April or May; otherwise, it will drag on. For marriage, it is better to have elders find a partner and follow their wishes, which will lead to a more favorable union. For wealth, there is no fortune to be gained, like trying to catch fish by climbing a tree. If you are the one seeking wealth, do not pursue it directly. Partnerships are permissible.

Divination Meaning

This hexagram's name is "Zhong Fu," meaning inner sincerity. It reveals the principle that one should be sincere and trustworthy in establishing oneself and conducting affairs, extending this sincerity to others, and should not be insincere or feign affection. Zhong Fu signifies sincerity and truthfulness, indicating a fortunate omen. If one prioritizes sincerity in all actions and dealings, then all matters can proceed smoothly. This hexagram combines Xun (Wind) above and Dui (Lake) below. The wind's movement changes with the seasons, symbolizing a response that aligns with natural timing. This extends to the regular and reliable changes in climate, which are a manifestation of sincerity. The Dui (Lake) is influenced by tides, rising and falling at specific times without fail, which is also a demonstration of sincerity, hence the name Zhong Fu.
